2. Innsbruck is a twelfth century market town, which began where a bridge (brucke) crossed the River Inn. This view of the city, taken from the top of the cableway at Nordpark-Seegrube (1905 m.) shows the town spread out across the valley floor. The River Inn, milky white with glacial sediment, winds away to the east, eventually to join the Danube. To the right the entrance to the Brenner Pass can be seen behind the motorway viaduct.
Innsbruck was the site of the winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. Close to the line of the motorway the ski jump slope, redundant at this time of year, can be seen
